Photos deleted by mistake

Hello,
A friend has deleted a lot of photos from her Sony Cybershot digital camera and is really upset and would like them recovered somehow.
She has gone into PC World and they have said they'd charge £80 which seems steep.
I have checked online for any software that might do it but they all seem to charge. Does anyone know of anything free or with a minimal charge? Or anything they've tried and would recommend?
Thanks in Advance

Be sure to uncheck any 3rd party toolbars etc when installing, and when recovering pics then do so to a different location so as to avoid overwriting any that are awaiting recovery.0 -
Sorry for late reply and thank you.
Everything I found by search engine that appeared to be free was in fact costed once you clicked through to the download. I will try this, thanks for posting the link.

Recuva is definitely free. I think there's a paid for version with premium support, but the free version works well. What will your verse be?

Thanks!
I was looking for a software like this too.0 -
If you never want to see your photos again, then entrust the work to PCW...that's the very last place to go for anything tech-related.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
