Zante, Kalamaki resort

so the OH and I have more or less decided on Zante for our holiday next summer.
But some travel agents say that between the hours of 6am and 10pm aircraft noise can be heard due to the resort being near the airport.
Is this true and if so how bad is it? and also what is the resort like?

    Hi OP,

I was in Kalamaki in May this year - it isn't that noticeable, and Kalamaki is a breeding ground for the Loggerhead Turtle so they cannot fly between 12 midnight and 4am anyway. There is some noise as Kalamaki is on the flight path, but we were in a party of 9, including an 8 month old and a 14 year old who sleeps very lightly, and their sleep wasn't interrupted. We stayed at the Amaryllis Aparthotel - staff were amazing especially Maggi, pool was fab, rooms are clean and spacious, showers are a bit !!!! but that's greece for you, and its 10 minutes in a taxi from the airport (costs 13 euro this year, probs 15 euro next year and way cheaper than the transfers.)

If you want a resort without the potential for aircraft noise, Tsvili in the north is probably more your thing.

Alykanas (not sure if thats how you spell it) is pretty, and quite close to Zante Town.

Laganas is your typical 18-30 resort, but not too mad to be fair - there is plenty there and some good food places.

Kalamaki is quite quiet - I'd recommend Yummy's if you wanted to eat out (the food is amazing as is their service!), and the fun park is great for all ages and reasonably priced. The Look Up pub and Iguana bar are great for a beer and a chill out, and Bob & Dan who run the crazy golf are amazing; their food is so well cooked and very reasonable on price, and the golf is pretty good too!

Kalamaki is literally one road, so if you're looking for some nightlife then you will struggle, what is it that you want from a holiday? I've been to Zante three times now and stayed in 3 different resorts, as well as most of the other greek islands, so I hopefully can offer you a bit of advice? Feel free to PM me if you want or reply on here :)

thanks for your reply. we are thinking of staying at the venus hotel, just B&B for 10 days. during the day we like to either lounge near a pool or go out and explore but dont want to hire a car so it's local bus or excursions.
at night we like to go out to eat, either a steady walk around the bars or find a nice one and watch the world go by.
we want some nightlife but nothing like laganas.

we may of changed our minds on kalamaki. done a bit of research and tsilivi seems to be more lively and more like a resort that suits us.

    Hi OP,

Tsilivi is quite good. The buses take some getting used to and are usually jam packed; taxis aren't expensive on Zante (prices are set by local government).

Venus hotel is quite nice, centrally located.

so out of kalamaki and tsilivi, which resort is the busiest regarding night life and things to do?

They are about even - Laganas is where the night life is (pubs, clubs and bars), which is around 10 mins in a cab from Kalamaki if you want a lively one. There's a couple of bars in both Kalamaki and Tsilivi, but they are family resorts and are oriented towards families, so there's not much in the way of nightlife in either.

If you want somewhere lively, Zante isn't your island. Try Majorca if you want island life.
