consumer rights r.e. refunds

my wife has bought me a winter season ticket at the lake i fish. the ticket was £150 and is valid from october 1st.
i don't want it though and the owners of the lake are declining my request for a refund.
surely they have to don't they?

the ticket was purchased by my wife on july 14th in person with the owner's representative at the venue. I informed that person on the 22nd when I was given the gift and told to wait until today (26/7) for a response.

any help greatly appreciated.

No they don't have to unless they say they will in their terms and conditions.
  • As far as I know none were set out. She received a receipt for the cash and nothing else. the ticket came in the post a week later stating simply "non transferable" and "non refundable".

thanks for the quick response, Laurence

There is no legal right for a refund for goods bought in person due simply to a change of mind. If the terms and conditions don't explicitly give you the right to change your mind then they are free to refuse a refund.

What about when buying services not goods?

I do not believe buying services is any different in this respect. I do not remember any mention for rights to a redund in The Supply of Goods and Services act (at least for a change of mind). The only contracts that have a general right of refund are distance contracts.

If you fish there, who don't you want a season ticket? Perhaps the wife is dropping a hint and enjoys having some time to herself?

You have no rights to a refund, so enjoy it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Guess I don't think £150 is good value. I won't go that many times especially if we have a harsh winter!

It has nothing to do with you getting good value, you have got really really good value out of it. It didn't cost you a penny.

If my OH did that with a gift I bought him I wouldn't bother being so thoughtful next time, or even bother.

Enjoy your free gift, there really is nothing you can do about it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
