Engine Management Light Honda Civic Diesel 2002

Hi

Our Honda Civic failed yesterday and it turned out it needed a new alternator, which has been fitted and the car is back as normal now.

However the orange engine management light is now on, the garage did the repair for us quickly to get it back on the road and we agreed to sort the light out soon, but before the MOT.

We know there are no other faults with the car, is it just a case of taking the car to a garage and getting the light reset or is there anything we could do ourselves?

Thanks

Martin
Been there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!

It takes less than 5 minutes to read and reset the light so just take it back to the garage that fitted the alternator. Personally I wouldn't have let the car leave like that.

The light is now on? Ie the light came on after the repair, not before? This could be a seperate issue or just where the garage have disconnected batteries etc. I agree the garage should have sorted this first if they were aware of it

The car my display a EML because the battery was disconnected, in this case the car needs a good run to relearn its parameters such as load etc, (check your handbook for the ECU relearn procedure).

    Many thanks for the replies.

All sorted as per the final reply, just been for a run and the light has gone out.

The only reason the garage let us take the car was because we needed it today, it was the breakdown with the alternator that caused the light to come on, all sorted now then.
