I get the digest - 2 or 3 a day. It invariably has the item offered and taken on the same digest.0 -
Yep, the digest just comes out too late. I don't see why they don't just stick it to the digest and stop the individual emails, it would be much more hassle free.
My tip with things like that is to sign up to www.ippimail.com, it's an email provider where your emails make money for charity. I've got a spam account for when I have to sign up for things and I LOVE seeing it getting full of junk because that makes my chosen charity money! :rotfl:0 -
OK it is a joke title, but I just had to add my pennorth. I have been using freecycle for just a month and am already fed up of it. Have got rid of several things, had emails saying yes...yes...yes.... then no reply when I say they can have it.
Begging emails also - asking for my address and telephone number saying they can be round within an hour! I will definitely only use it for large items in future. The rest can go to a charity shop I think.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Got my latest digest this afternoon.
2 posts for laptops wanted - with sob story for each.
Some furniture posted at 5am and the taken message posted within the hour.0 -
My wife and i have been using freecycle for the past month, I def agree with comments about the wanted posts, dont think they should be allowed full stop.
We have had no problems, given away 3 compost bins with no problems and last week we were discussing getting a greenhouse for the garden, looked on ebay then the next day what should appear on our local freecycle?......
A greenhouse, 2 years old with everything including loads of extra bits that the giver away decided we could have the day we went to dismantle.
We were completely surprised that we got it as it was a good 9 hours since it was listed.0 -
If you want to check the history of posts of people on freecycle, just type their name into the "search" box and it will show you all their posts. I looked at someone yesterday, it was all wanteds......................
So when someone emails you asking for something, just log into freecycle and check how much they have offered and how much they do wanteds, I often base my decision on that, so that someone who has loads of offereds would deffo get my offered (if you get what I mean!)

I guess the thing with something like a greenhouse is that even the most avid car booters and ebayers are going to be a little daunted by dismantling and transporting a greenhouse! :rotfl:A greenhouse, 2 years old with everything including loads of extra bits that the giver away decided we could have the day we went to dismantle.

I am fed up with the whole Freecycle 'thing' in my group.
The 'wanted' requests have to be seen to be believed. Requests for cars, motorcycles, laptops, 26" silver flat screen TV, etc
I am convinced it is a happy hunting ground for EBAY sellers.
im in agreement you give to person you think will get most out of it and they turn up with a car or van full of other stuff they have collected that day better just putting it out for refuge guys they take anything thats half decent and give it to family etc that could use it
feed up with replies saying i'll take it all no please or thank you some even have the cheeck to ask if you can deliver it to them:mad:0 -

I know I've had that it's outrageous!! I even had one person say that she'd have the item and I was to bring it round with no please or thanks or anything!!
I've found freecycle such a pain that I don't use it now unless I have to. If I've got furniture, electrical items or anything to donate I ring my local refuges and charity shops to see if they can use it. They can usually pick it up so it's like the good things of freecycle without the cruddy bits. Result!
You can find out your local refuge by calling 0808 2000 2470 -
Some neighbourhoods group up for Freecycle stuff, probably for themselves.
One lady come round to collect a TV and had a list of addresses , and she remarked "it's my turn to pick up this week". Enterprising.0
