Hi, thanks everyone
Was starting to think it was me who had the problem! You could email the moderators and say that you found his attitude unpleasant. I would be upset by someone coming back to the house without contacting me first because if I'm not in, I don't want them talking to anyone else!
I emailed the forum and got a response from the mods:
Hi Angela,
> I completly understand what you are saying and I am very sorry that
> you feel this has ruined freecycle for you.
> I have also been on the receiving end of emails suggesting that my
> items are less than shop quality.
> Unfortunatly I cannot post your message, but I would suggest that you
> join the freecycle cafe and post your message there, as this is for
> topics like this.
> Perhaps you can forward me an email to XXXXXXX and let me
> know who the individual was and I can forward the name to the other
> moderators and see if any one else has reported incidents with this
> particular person.
> Please also let us know if you have any further problems
> Kind regards
>
I then got en email (which to be honest, I have deleted unfortunately), just expressing his concern that I felt I had had a bad freecycle experience, my response to him was:

Many thanks XXXX for your contact and concern.
Having contacted my elderly parents last night (I am currently travelling with work so am not at home until this evening), the freecycler actually appeared at the house to complain about the item and leave it at the house (which I would rather he had done to be honest) - suggesting that we had maliciously cut through the line on the rotary drier - completely ridiculous as it had either perished or the rats/mice had chewed through it over winter.
I don't want to put my parents at risk in this way.
All the other freecyclers without exception have been very pleased with the other items I offered. I fact, one of them had expressed that their mother might have been interested in the rotary line (as well as others who responded to the post) so it could have easily found a home to someone who was willing to put in a bit of effort.
I have always been more of a OFFERER than a WANTED freecycler (in fact I have never received anything from freecycle) but will be giving it a rest for the time being.

I have subsequently resigned from the yahoo group.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I've just had a strange experience with a freecycler - I wasn't planning to be around for a guy to come and pick up an item so I said I would leave it on the front doorstep as he could only make it a certain time. Imagine my surprise went I returned home early than planned and found this guy standing in my shed! I can only assume he was looking for some other objects that could need "freecycling".....I said "excuse me" and he mumbled thanks and promptly drove off!
I'm right in thinking I should inform the moderator, aren't I?0 -

oh the poor lad, sounds like he was looking for some free stuff to make money with, so obviously having to invest money or time wasn't his idea of a quick buck, er, quid.

I reckon you should inform the police to be honest too! that's shocking!0 -
I'm happy to post wanted ads on freecycle and certainly don't keep a count on how many I post per month.
If there's something I'm going to buy, I ask freecycle first to see if I can recycle and not buy new. If no response, I buy it anyway.
I'd like to believe that Freecycle is inherently good and the vultures that lurk there are just a significant vocal minority that get in the way of the rest of us nice folk.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Never give your phone number.....I had one guy ring me from every junction, "which way now".0

I had a very annoying experience that stopped me using freecycle for a long time. I had previously asked for a garden shredder weeks earlier without response. I was both surprised and pleased when I received an email saying "I am offering a shredder on freecycle. Any good?"
I emailed right back that I would like it and that I could collect it right away. After not hearing anything for a couple of days I emailed again and got the response. "I'm sorry that you thought I was offering the shredder to you. I have given it to someone else."
Why did this idiot email me in the first place if they were not offering it to me?
