Tesco Car Insurance (warning)

Probably deserves to be in the Praise/Warnings section, but also very applicable here.

Last year the OH gets insured with Tesco, moderately reasonable price and joins them with 19 years (accepted) no claims bonus.

Get the paperwork this year inviting her to renew , and it seems she now only has 9 years no claims bonus.
Takes a 47 minute phone call before they finally concede and offer to send out a letter confirming 20 years of no claims.

A friend who has his own insurance brokerage says that most companies don't look past 9 years with regard to no claims, but that isn't the point in my opinion.

Just a heads up more than a rant, check that paperwork folks!
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

In defence of Tesco this is pretty standard. Most companies just state the max. no claims period that they use.

yeah, on their computers the max ncb is probably 9 so it gets stuck on it. So when leave and request a certificate it will say 9. You have to ask them to calculate and issue you a accurate certificate - a lot of insurers cant be arsed and since you're no longer a customer they take the !!!!.

My brother had an issue with a small insurer and the account manager would just make excuses, hide behind the receptionist and say he's in a meeting and stuff.

Eventually gave up chasing and accepted the 9 years ncb certificate.

Depends on the insurer; a few loudly trumpet that they reward good drivers by recognising up to 9 years no claims bonus. This means that you get much the same maximum discount eventually, but take 9 years to reach it rather than 5. Apparently some people prefer that think that's a better deal. ;)

Not aware of anybody who recognises more than 9 years; the only difference between 9 and 20 is that the latter means you get a slightly warmer fuzzier feeling when you look at your renewal letter.

Which probably expalins why my renewal said 9 years, different company, when it was 11, some sites I had to enter exact like 11, but only did 9 as that was my proof.

70% discount after 5 years, then 1% per year for up to another 5 years, so 75% max. In reality its all marketing BS as all that matters is the premium.
