Building insurance invalid because relative took out policy on house I own

My own fault but didn't realise that if the property was transferred to me ..... even though I didn't live there, charged no rent and had no tenancy agreement with my relative ..... I was responsible for buildings insurance.
Its not a case of who is responsible for buildings insurance. You had an asset and should have insured it because you would suffer a loss if anything happened to it.
Anyway, CliffordPope's advice is good. You need to explore whether he had an interest and what was declared to insurers. If it was taken out via the bank, did they know that he didn't own it?
I assume that there has been a degree of investigation to get to the stage that the insurer has declined a total loss claim. What sequence of events have happened so far?0
