Cancelling insurance

Options
I'm going travelling and when I phoned up to cancel my car insurance and they tried to hit me with £50 admin fees. Surely if I just cancel the direct debt no admin fees will be needed?

Cancelling the direct debit does not cancel the policy, you will still be liable for the remainder of the outstanding policy fees which they will chase you for, if you do not pay it your credit rating will be trashed.

You are cancelling the policy to go travelling it is not their fault, you are liable for any cancellation charges.

Your insurance will then be voided for non-payment, the £50 cancellation fee still apply, plus the additional time on cover until its cancelled and possibly missed payment fees.

When you get back you will then pretty much be barred from getting insurance (home, travel, car, pet etc) from any mainstream insurer for life because you will have to declare Yes to the question on if you have EVER had insurance cancelled.

And they cmay add late payment charges on also so wrecking future credit applications.

£50 will seen like pennies when you have to pay extra for insurance for many years and cannot get credit at decent rates.

You agreed to everything when you took the original insurance out.

As the others have said, even if you cancel the dd, you still owe the money.

They will chase you for it, possibly with eventually a CCJ and your credit will be trashed for years.

    Just pay up and smile.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
