Flight price question..

Hi,

I have been looking into booking my own flights and hotel in sharm to cut costs. I found a flight for 400pp from Manchester but it's £48 per bag - has anyone tried to haggle this? Is it possible? It's just annoying adding almost another 100 to my total holiday cost!

Thanks

Forgot to mention this is 24 sept to 01 oct
  • Good luck.

Ancillary revenue, such as baggage fees and other 'optional extras' is the lifeblood of low cost airlines as it allows them to offer lower 'headline' fares. You can ask, but I'd be amazed if any low cost airline even entertained the idea.

You're going for 1 week to a very casual location thats all about the beach/pool in the day and drinking in the evening. Do you really need hold luggage? Even my wife that normally has one suitcase dedicated to just shoes and handbags managed to go with just handluggage to Sharm

I would prefer to take hold luggage, yes.

Has anyone managed to get flight costs down another way?

Book early, use Quidco, use airmiles (or whatever that particular airline call them - not generally relevant for budget airlines), check all airlines as budget providers arent always cheaper than non-budget, look at both charter and schedule flights, check near by alternative airports, check different dates, look at DIY flights + hotel, speak to travel agents..... all the normal things really.

I guess it's the Thomson flights? If there's two of you travelling and you want to take hold baggage and it's only for a week, is there any way you can only book one bag? Even up it to 25kg (max bag size is 23kg so you'd have to split between two bags but you can check in up to 3 bags) and you can take 12.5 each? We flew with them earlier this year and baggage was included in the holiday price and none of our cases were over 10kg for a week. Just remember with Thomson that hand baggage is a minuscule 5kg each.

We usually book one hold bag between us then of course you can carry on between 5 and 10kg . I have done just carry on baggage and managed but then you have to start buying suncreams and stuff and hassle of make up in bags so prefer to check in one bag to carry gels/creams etc
