Coconut Oil ?

Does anyone buy his for everyday cooking not just curries?

I have had a look online and it does seem to be a tad expensive £6 for 300ml or £10 for 500ml.
Do you get it cheaper and where from please?
Thanks

I paid approx £6 for a big glass jar of 910ml (the brand = "Biona"). I got it from a shop called "Planet Organic" in Westbourne Grove, central London. Just an idea: You should call health food stores to see how much they sell them for, because they're sold everywhere. Sometimes you can get better deals in-store vs online.

I dont use it for cooking - I use it for my hair.

    Sounds about right price wise.

You want extra virgin pure coconut oil in order to get most of the benefits.

However I have used coconut oil and saw no difference at all so ceased using it.

The world food section of the supermarket should sell it a little cheaper.

I bought a 500ml KTC jar of coconut oil for £2.49 from a local Asian shop, I use it for cooking/baking.

  • This is £2.25 in Tescos (maybe only larger stores). Hope this helps.

I love coconut oil but I do tend to buy the more expensive stuff as I eat quite a lot of it. My favourite is the Lucy Bee brand, which is about £6 for a 250ml jar in Sainsbury's but you can get a 500ml jar from Amazon for £9.95 with free postage if you buy it as part of a bigger order (otherwise it's a ridiculous amount for postage). It's by far the nicest tasting coconut oil I've found - I love a teaspoonful stirred into my porridge in the morning.

Pah. Hipster snobs. Bet you're all la-dee-dah types who sneer at people still buying olive oil only from chemists for their ears. "Ooh, look at me, I'm twenty years ahead of you."

Just stick it in your hair and don't be so silly. 'Cooking' with coconut oil. Ridiculous.

I'm going to start a cult of spritzing salad leaves with WD-40. "Oh, it stops cholestrum radiclots sticking to your arteries!"

I mainly eat it because I love coconut :) But it apparently has a lot of health benefits (if you get the unbleached virgin stuff, not the highly processed cheap stuff) and can help with weight loss (if eaten in the right proportions lol). You can also use is as a moisturiser and hair mask. I use it in cooking and it's a good butter substitute if you need to do any dairy-free baking but you still want a 'buttery' taste. I used it to make a carrot cake crumble the other day which was really good.

I personally wouldn't fry an egg in it but in recipes that benefit from a coconut flavour then it's lovely - Thai curries and coconut rice, for example.

The carrot cake crumble sounds yum. Can I have the recipe, please?
