    OP your car policy is a 12 month loan as others have stated.
    It does not matter that you have paid on time for 18 months it is your responsibility to make sure the funds are there to pay the premium on time.
    To make sure this does not happen again try to build up a fund in your account you pledge not to touch unless an absolute necessity.

    There's no brownie points for simply doing what you agreed you would under the terms of the contract.

    Rather than moan about them. Your time would be better spent avoiding the same situation arising again in future.
