Look on a local facebook group for a photographer.

I would insist on a full refund from these people, as they don't come across as very professional!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

No, if the mug photographer puts up a price of £250, let them do the job for £250.

But I am afraid you will get a poor product for that price. 2 Photographers, Husband and Wife. 5 hours work at the wedding, is £25 per hour per photographer. What would you expect, a cheap book of prints from photobox?

Or iof I put it another way. If the photographer did 50 weddings a year, this would give an income of £12,500. Could you live on that.

PS, I charge £3,000 per wedding. I would not get out of bed for that money.

let us know what the pictures are like!!
So two photographers for 8 hours, that is just over £15 an hour each. Travel then reduces this to £8.16 per hour.

One wonders what quality the CD will be?

Who cares how much they make! That's their problem not ops.

This cant end well as even if the photographer decides to do the wedding at the agreed price they will be resentful and are not going to put thier heart into doing good photos.

Having said that, my cousin is a wedding photographer, booked up 2 years in advance with a fantastic reputation and charges in the region of £2000/£2500 for each wedding.

He's told us many a time that even taking into account the hours, equipment, studio rent etc, etc he reckons he clears £1000 profit on even his cheapest package.

Says he's better paid that MPs and seems to have no concience about it saying that brides seem to think the more thay pay the better they feel - like bragging rights. He says he could do the same job £1000 cheaper but then he wouldnt get the work as the brides would not think he was 'as good'.

    Ridiculous really.
  • Has this "photographer" got insurance if the train is cancelled ?? :rotfl:

This sounds like a "one man and his dog" outfit - £250 for a wedding, dream on !!

Another alternative would be to hire one for ceremony only and ask guests to take pics on their smartphones/cameras at the evening do with the best one/ones being given a token gift (just to give them incentive).

Or contact a local college that offers photography courses and enquire if they have any students that have any experience/ability to do this. Our local college will do this, used to only be hairdressing but they seem to allow other requests too. Just remember to see their portfolio so you know what the quality of their work is like. They're more likely to do it cheap because they need the experience/more stuff for their portfolio and it can help them with their coursework also.

While I do think you're entitled to your deposit back, I do also agree with others that £250 is cheap for a wedding photographer so I would be dubious as to how good they are. Have you seen examples of their work?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

A massive assumption that a deluxe package magically includes travel because the photographer uses the same lens.

I was basically saying that the quality generally doesn't vary (but it might be the case here) so it is reasonable (without the details being known) to assume that it MAY cover expenses. Probably worded it wrong, no big deal

I am not on about how much they make. It is the quality of the product they offer.

They are still expected to deliver a service to a reasonable standard. And since they are professional photographers any reasonable person would expect them to deliver professional photos. Granted the quality of these may vary in terms of touching up etc, but just because a photographer has tendered for business which is of low value doesn't mean op shouldn't get or be entitled to decent photos.

If they don't feel they can do their job properly for the price then they shouldn't have offered up their services.

there's loads of photographers where we are that charge similar prices and having seen the work of a couple you'd be pleasantly surprised how good they are. Couple of gigs a week and they make a pretty good living too.
