Thinking of a Natwest Yourpoints Card....DONT

So apparently Natwest do their damn hardest to stop you paying off your credit card!!!! After calling last month to pay off the full amount they advised i could not pay it until the interest had calculated and a letter was received the following month, however they had intact closed the account so no other charges would be received! Today i received a call to tell me i had to make an immediate payment as i owed £100! Is this a Joke? not only that, the patronising little boy on the phone treating me like a thief did not help!! Following this i called your points helpline to feel a little better about all the money on the card and claim the points, which when hearing the amount works out at 0.02p for every £ spent! what an absolute waste of time! Ideas on how to argue this case would be much appreciated!

The card in question is no longer advertised by NatWest as they have decided to only offer fee-paying cards now. So your title advising people not to take one is quite redundant.

I'm not really clear what the issue is here. You called to pay in full; why? It sounds like you might have been closing the account; is that right?

If you close an account without paying the last two statements in full, there will be some trailing interest. When closing a card it's best to stop spending on it, wait until you have two statements showing zero, then close the account. If you didn't, this may be the cause of the extra payment required.

I can't really comment on the cashback value because I don't know what the terms of the card were but I've never seen the card on a best buy list so I doubt it's a huge percentage. Also given you were charged interest it's likely you didn't repay in full - paying in full is the only way to make money from cashback cards.

Your post didn't make much sense to me so I've answered your question as best I can. Maybe when you're less angry you can explain it a little more clearly.
If you think you have grounds for complaint, NatWest have a complaints procedure that you should look into.

Fwiw this is wrong. You earn 1 point per pound spent, and when converting points to anything "cash equivalent" such as vouchers these are at £10 value per 2000 points, giving an effective rate of 0.5p/£1 spent.
0.5% isnt a great level of cashback by any stretch, but its 25 times higher than the figure you've quoted.
