credit card charges on flights

Hi
could anyone tell me if using a visa debit card when paying for a flight gives the same insurance as paying by visa credit card ? How should I pay for flights without getting a fee added but still be covered for bankruptcy of the travel company selling the ticket.
many thanks
Mat

Are you buying through a travel agency or direct from the airline? If through an agency, check to see if they belong to an organisation such as ABTA or TTA both of which guarantee your money if the agency fails before you have your ticket. It won't help if the airline goes pop, consider how likely is that to happen? If you are worried, ask if they can supply airline failure insurance which should be £5 or less. Only credit cards give section 75 protection but some banks have a voluntary scheme for debit cards, possibly call your bank and see if you would be covered and google the name of the agency to see if anyone has had any problems with them.

S75 is part of the Consumer Credit Act and nothing to do with Visa themselves.

You only get S75 protection if you use a credit card (irrespective which network it is on). Some chargecards or debit cards may offer similar protections as part of their perks but these are subject to the terms of the contract and and arent statutory protection
