Yeh but this is a very slow laptop .....It would not make even web browsing an enjoyable experiences .
My advice pay a bit more and buy something far better .laptops are being offered at some great prices ...This is a waste of money.
Sorry OP only my opinion .

I agree with the above poster. For just 70-100 pounds more you can get a MUCH better spec'd laptop. That lappy is boardering on obcelete (sp?). Last time I checked, they had a great compaq for 380 in the clearance section.

Not available for delivery online, but available to reserve in store - got one today.

Despite its low-spec, it surfs and emails well, handles itunes and runs my mobile phone software.

It looks like there's not much trouble at all finding stores with stock of these. Most seem to have them in fact - you'll be unlucky if your local store hasn't.

Can't argue that £200 is a decent price for a laptop, but I also agree that the sub-£300 Dell laptops that have been posted on here recently represent much better value.

Yes, but the irony is that you need the 1G RAM and a faster processor just to run Vista! The OP is quite right - you just don't need the latest and greatest to do most of what people want to do. What exactly does Vista give you for surfing the web, emailing, and writing documents (download OpenOffice for free)?

Edited to say, blimey, comes with MSworks and it RUNS! so add calendar, spreadsheets and word processing to surfing and email...!
As I just said - treat yourself to https://www.openoffice.org, for free. Unlike MS Works, it is not a deliberately crippled piece of software designed to get you to upgrade to a paid-for version.

  • I thnk they made a mistake with the compaq in the clearence, it was actually 279£ for core duo t2080,1gig,vista premium, i agree you do need a higher spec for vista, but the main reason vista use's more resource's is all the over the top security. I have a 1gig laptop with vista ultimate(the best version of vista with all the bells and whistles) and personally i have turned of ,user account control, the desktop gadget, system restore, disabled hard drive power cut protection, disabled bit locker. and installed mcafee internet security with just virus protection and firewall, all the rest is junk and slows a computer down. After a clean install vista was using 79% memory, now it uses 49% which insn't to bad. However i always do a whole partition back-up often to a external drive and save all pictures, doc's and other important stuff to a usb external drive. But i think vista is over the top with security. I might write a guide on how to improve vista, i first had it 4 years ago when they released it in the early stages called "codename longhorn" to the ms developer network(i have had a developer subscription for years) . And downloaded each new release till final version was released.

As i just posted over on HD ... Assuming it's still available and you have an extra £92 I'd go for the Dell laptop that popped up a few days ago.

    Main points are;
    1. Better processor AMD Semperon vs Via (never heard good things about the via, people slate the AMD as well but its better than the via )
    2. 1GB RAM vs 256MB
    3. 120GB HDD vs 40GB
    4. 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display vs 14.1" 1024 x 768
    5. DVD RW vs DVD ROM \ CD RW

I'm not slating this deal and if you only have £200 to spend then go for it. But £92 more will give you a much better machine that will have a longer life. The difference gets less if you start buying RAM upgrades and external drives as well.

This assumes the Dell is still available.
