A dilemma

Hi everyone,
Got a bit of a dilemma my 26 year old son and his girlfriend are splitting up. I don't really have the room to take him in but there is no way I would see him on the streets. This would mean him and his 11 year old brother sharing a room.
My dilemma is that my husband and I get the following benefits IS, CA, DLA and we get full HB and help with our CT. We also get CB and CTC.
How would my son moving in with us affect any of these benefits. He is self employed and earns a decent wage.
We live in Scotland not sure if this is relevant.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

you need to look at non-dependent deductions for housing and council tax, there should be a section on your councils website that details how much your benefits will be reduced by based on his income (I assume he will make up this delta by paying board) other benefits should not be affected0

Hi Caz3121,
Thanks for that I will have a look and see if I can find it.
Found it thanks looks like we would lose our HB, He is willing to pay the rent on our behalf.

If he is earning decent money won't it be better and easier for him to find his own place.
I'm not too sure but having him there and paying your rent may also impact on some of your other benefits. Try the entitledto calculator and input the details with him living there, it is usually pretty acurate.0 -
Can he and his gf not sort things out so they can life together (but live seperate lives) long enough for him to save up for deposit etc on his own place? Its what people do. Its not easy, but it can be done.0

If you're on DLA care, then there is no non-dep deduction from your Housing Benefit.0

He is self employed and earns a decent wage.
Would renting his own place be possible?0 -
if the DLA award is for you or your husband, there will be no non dependant deduction.
if the DLA award is for your child, then there will.

Hi thanks for all the replies.
I would like nothing more for him to get a place of his own no 26 year old wants to move back with their parents, but although does earn decent money he does a lot of subcontract work for a company and does not get paid a wage every week. He may have to wait a month or more for the money to come through. I would be scared if one month he wasn't able to pay rent on a private let. I live in a council property and my rent is less than £200 a month where as rent on a private let could be anything from £400 to £600 a month. Plus he would not have to pay bills on top of rent if he was here. I would hate him to get himself in debt with a private let.
I am hoping that they will be able to work through what is happening and stay together, I just want to be prepared for the worse.
It is me who claims the DLA for myself and hubby gets CA and IS.
I will try the entitled to calculator this evening when I have access to my laptop.
