    I didn't see this bit earlier... did you mean he was on carers Allowance from April 2011 - September 2011....and he started the job in January 2012?

    If so the CA would have paid him NI credits worth £102 for every week on CA, so that's approx 20 - 24 weeks x 102 = £2040 - £2400 of income that he would not have had to earn in that tax year, so as long as he a earned about £3100 for Jan - April 2012 .,.....then he would qualify for ESA Conts.

    And they have now changed their minds and he is entitled so that's great news.
