credit card charges on flights

Try using a cashback website like Quidco - lots of airlines and travel providers will offer a few percent back which more or less offsets the credit card fee.
If yours doesn't offer - try something like Kayak to find an alternative.
If your airline goes bust, a debit card issuer can only chargeback the price paid. Whereas, a credit card issuer has responsibility to make good on your travel arrangements including alternative flights and so forth. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. In my experience, Travel Insurance is not as good as S75 protection.
S75 is useless for that!
I agree with the basis of your post though. It's worth paying the surcharge to get the protection. Ideally splitting it £1 on credit card and the rest on debit card if possible!
And have travel insurance in place regardless of your method of payment.0 -
Even if Emirates were flying a route I wanted, I would avoid them as they are one of a growing number of carriers that squeeze an extra column of seats into their 777s - 3-4-3 instead of 3-3-3
BA - 17.5" width, 31" pitch. Emirates 17" width, 32" pitch.
Neither pitch is good, but I find the overspill from a stranger sitting next to me really annoying, and that extra inch between you is important.
That's just what the wife said on our honeymoon !!A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !

Quite agree on the necessity of travel insurance when travelling outside the EU or going on a cruise, just making the point that S75 gives better protection in the case of airline failure.
And the insurance companies always expect you to make claims against the airline or CC providers in the first instance, with travel insurance being a last resort.0
