Cat proofing a garden to keep cat in?

Well said, cats do as they like, we are after all their servants and as such we do not own them, they own us.

Foxes do actually kill rats. The well-fed neighbouring cats are only after an opportunist snack. Wild animals have families to feed.

Ok, let's try to remember the OP posted this thread because her cat was killed on the road. Only a few weeks ago. I imagine, having been in that position that she is utterly heartbroken. She's looking for help to keep another cat safe. There have been some excellent solutions proposed. It's not about cat/anti cat views.

Foxes won't waste their energy killing rats when both can live off food left behind by humans.
