I would go to the following link and search for Digital Camera
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/Home.jsp
You will be able to put your price range in and research the camera's which appeal to your taste and for the best price
Then look for reviews on the camera's0 -
This Canon Powershot A630 is a cracking buy from Amazon - with free delivery. I have the A640, and it is brilliant, but not worth £50 more. (I was lucky enough to get mine when the Canon rebates were on)
Good Points
- 8MPixel
- SD Cards, including the new SDHC cards (cheap from 7 day shop)
- AA batteries (sorry - you will need to get re-chargeables, and not charged on camera)
- 4x optical zoom
- its a Canon!
Downside - not the smallest.
Hope that helps,
Regards,

You've already got somethings in mind that are important to you but just to back up and expand on freddysmith's post which suggested looking at pricerunner to get you comparing prices, features and reviews.
You could find it a worthwhile investment to spend £4 on a digital camera buyer's magazine for some expert help. I bought 2 before buying my wife's camera recently. A worthwhile investment if you are spending £150.
I also took her to the shops to try out a few cameras as I think it is important to get some idea of how the camera feels in the hands of the person using it most.
For example some cameras have fairly small buttons or you could find they are just in the wrong place for you.
It's possible to get some really small compact digital cameras now but again does it feel right in your hands or are you going to drop it - some of them have a small rounded bit on one side that made it easier for me to hold it steady.
Here is the personal recommendation bit - it doesn't quite fit with the few specs you gave but I think it's worth considering.
My wife opted for a Sony as she like the big LCD screen on the back and the fact it was ultra compact without the ridge (fits really nicely in her pocket and looks great).
I surprised her with the particular model I bought - eventually opted to get the Sony W55. Massive Brownie points awarded.
It doesn't use the SD memory card however - Sony pro-duo - you really have to shop around to get a good deal on them. Sony W35 could be picked up for around £115 and a 2GB pro-duo card for about £35 so it's on budget.
Doesn't charge in camera but it is no hassle to take the L-ion battery out to put it in the charger supplied.
Digital Camera Issue number 58 had a battle of the bestsellers under £200
If buying for myself I would have bought their recommended one - based on the review and seeing it in the shops (handling is important as some are so compact you could find your fingers are too big for buttons or you can't get a comfortable grip).
They recommended the Canon Powershot A710 1S - I think it might only be available in Jessops £199 so it might be more than you want to pay.
They thought Sony Cybershot W35 (I bought W55) was a good all rounder and Pentax Optio L30 was good but they said at only £40 less than the Canon it didn't have enough features (but that depends I suppose on if you want to stump up extra cash). However I have just searched on www.kelkoo.co.uk and that Pentax is available from Jessops for £130 and it takes an SD memory card so it could be for you. It's got a lot of nice features the link to Jessop's below could be worth a look.
If you are going to use it in bright sunshine such as on holiday it is worth bearing in mind that most compact digital cameras don't have a true optical viewfinder i.e. something to look through if it is too sunny to see what is on your LCD screen on the back of the camera. The sony cameras I mentioned have this.
click on the links below for a look at some of the cameras I mentioned
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126605 is the Sony W35
http://www.jessops.com/Store/s48731/0/Digital-Compact-Cameras/Pentax/Optio-L30-Digital-Camera-/details.aspx is the Pentax optio L300 -

As I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, one of the great cameras in your price range at the moment is the Nikon S500 e.g. from Dixons for around £155, as Nikon (when you collect a voucher from next weekend's "big" papers) will then also give you £50 back. Have a look at the Nikon site for details.0 -
Can totally reccommend the Sony cyber shot DSC-H1. A brilliant point & shoot, with options to be more creative with settings. Did alot of homework before i bought mine (9 months ago) - half price in Argos, was £300, paid £150. Just remember that its NOT the number of pixels that make a good camera, but the optical zoom! You only need a 10 mega pixel camera if you want to print huge wall sized photos!!!November wins...a book, a designer handbag (worth £550 :T) and a game. I am now an addict and thank everyone for taking the time to share and post.0

Only half right.
Optical zoom is important but so is the number of pixels.
There are numerous other factors that affect image quality eg size of the sensor, quality of the lens, lens settings etc
But the biggest factor on image quality is the person taking the photo. A good photographer will get good images from any camera. A poor photographer will get poor images from the world's best camera.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -
Fuji F31 or F20 are both highly rated camera's in this price range, excellent battery life, brilliant in low light conditions.;)0

Personally I'd stump up some more dosh and get a Panasonic Lumix FZ8
£184.99 from Ebuyer

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=125837&_LOC=UK
I have a FZ5 - it's amazing. I've been to a tonne of weddings recently and comparing my photos with other peoples (even when my fiancee is taking them) it's a hell of a lot better. This is mostly down to the fantastic lecia lens.
My daddy told me a long time ago, before digital camera's arrive - it's all about optics
Big lens = more light = faster shutter speeds = better photos0 -
Realistically, you don't need more than 5 or 6MP. Adding more may be counterproductive on a small sensor camera (more receptors in the same sensor area -> less quality per sensor), and the quality of the lens is more important than the number of megapixels. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Panasonic Lumix cameras in this market segment.0
