Hi all

I'm just after a bit of information really.... I went and test drove a car at my local ford dealer about 4 weeks ago loved it so i put a £500 deposit down while i sorted my own finance out all was well until my finance company noticed the car was still registered in northern ireland so they would not pay out un till the garage got the car registered in the uk which i was told by the dvla would take 10 working days so that was all fine. 10 days pass still nothing so i got in contact with the dvla again only to find out the dvla had received nothing and the garage had sent the 5v + paper work first class so no proof of postage and its basically lost :(

So i have taken matters into my own hands and sent a v62 to the dvla my question is the car is "in trade" as in the last owner must of sent the yellow part in(V5C/3) So would this make it faster? Not 4 weeks to get a new v5 in my name as the dvla should not have to contact the last keeper which they say to give 2 weeks for the last keeper to respond. Or do they still need to contact the last keeper???

Sure, finance companies need all the business they can get and deal with non-Swansea based chaff.

Maybe you need to point out that NI IS in the UK :)

NI is in the UK, but uses a completely different vehicle registration system and office to E/S/W. Swansea don't know anything about this car yet. The dealer hasn't sent anything to Swansea, because there isn't a V5C for it. It isn't "in trade" - it doesn't exist at Swansea. It needs to be registered anew with them. I _believe_ there's a transfer from Coleraine, which is more straightforward than if it was from Eire or any other country, but it's still much more than if it was already on Swansea.

OP - don't get involved. Leave the dealer to it. If they don't sort it out, sharpish, walk. You say you "love" it - frankly, there's hundreds of similar cars, if it's something a Ford dealer is selling as a near-new.

No. This past several years V5s have been printed by Swansea, so it will be on their system as such.

BUT, and most interestingly - as of the 21st of July, ALL NI tax / reg docs go through swansea - the DVLNI is no more.

I think from the same thread over on Pistonheads the O/P is aware of the change over but this was kicked off before the 21st July.

Looking at it from the dealers perspective - its been going on over a month now, and i'm sure they're not chuffed about having a car sitting around taking up space and financial resources, while the O/P sorts out their own finance.

What sort of spasticated finance compnay are you dealing with?

Last time I re-registered a car from a NI plate to a "normal" plate I had to use a V55/5.

All sounds like a disater to me.

Aye. Cant see that the dealers to blame at all here.

Finance company who dont seem to know NI is part of UK, and then most likely general incompetence by the DVA who've no doubt lost the v5 that was posted to them but because theres no tracking number from the post they dont have to bother themselves to go look for it.

Meanwhile the dealer is sitting with a car held with a minimal deposit for a month, when they would normally have had it out and away in a couple of days.

My car was originally registered and sold by a main dealer in County Coleraine, no problem getting it registered here and the DVLA seem to have had it on the system, and no problem getting finance - that was several years ago.
