Renault Megane 2004 electrical problem

Hi Everyone.

I have had my megane for 10 months now...and so far its been fantastic! I great 72.4 average MPG....but now I have a series of electrical faults.
It started with my radio making a bleeping noise and turning itself off every half an hour. Now I don't have any air condition, heated rear window thingy (technical term, I know!), no 12v charger/cigarette lighter, no electric windows.....and now it seems to be affected by ABS and PAS. but, I have no warning lights on the dashboard.

Has anyone else had these problems or similar? if so, what was the cause?

So far,
Ive taken the cigarette lighter out (waiting for a new one to arrive tomorrow to wire up) and that doesn't seem to have helped (could it cause a problem even though the wires have just been taped off?!)
I've looked at all the fuses and they all look ok....could it be a fuse problem and the fuses still look ok?
Also, my dad has taken my drivers side window motor off as that had gone tits up too....could this be causing all the problems?
I appreciate this is very long...and lots of questions, most of which you might laugh at. But I know sweet FA about cars and i'm trying to do as much as I can without either asking my dad to do it (he owns his own business and it costs him money to be away) or paying for a garage to do it (I'm a working single parentso money is tight). Plus...we cant all know everything, right?

Many Thanks in advance

S

Fuses may look OK, But you need to test them. Are they really OK.

You need a wiring diagram to see what circuits share the same fuses. Radio and heater maybe on one circuit. Cuts out after an hour? So no ignition live circuit?

the radio cuts out after half an hour, apologise - I realise I've written a confusing message.
No washer pumps, AC, HRW etc at all...

I will have a go at changing the fuses and see if that helps.

    Many Thanks
  • Renaults are notorious for this sort of thing but it does sound like water/moisture in the fusebox.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
  • Sounds very similar set of problems to those we used to encounter back in 2004/5 at my previous job. We had a fleet of Meganes and Lagunas and they were hugely unreliable - a very common theme was indeed water in the electronics, most of which leaks in via the plenum chamber at the bottom of the windscreen.

We've had a lot of thunderstorms and heavy rains recently, so my money's on wet electrics. Not much you can do about it except remove it all, dry it out, clean up any corroded wiring and refit which may help, but if any of the electronics modules are damaged you're likely looking at car-writing-off bills to get it fixed.

I know this doesn't help you, but Renaults of that vintage are best avoided in future. Horrible things.

IIRC from a friend's car of that vintage the computery thing under the seat gets full of water.
