Late payment

Options
Up until very recently i had never missed a payment on any of my loans or credit cards.

Back in April i foolishly thought i had made a payment on my RBS credit card - it turned out i hadn't. I rectified this asap but have still got a late payment mark on my file.

This is the only red blot amongst a sea of green.

when i attempted to apply for a new credit card to shift a balance i was rejected - i can only presume because of this. I then applied for another thinking it was a one off but was rejected again (i presume due to recent searches on my file)

I stopped applying and I have since kept up with all my repayments, cleared one loan totally and am gradually reducing my debts.

My noddle score is shown as 2/5

In the next few months i'd like to apply again for another 0% shift - I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in how fast my score is likely to improve again and how many moths i should wait before applying again for another card?

Assuming this is the reason you have been declined then your chances of getting accepted for a new card will likely improve once the missed payment is more than 6months old.

Do you have high existing debt compared to your income? if so then that could also be contributing to you being declined.

You don't have a credit score so can't answer the question you pose relating to this.

However, one missed payment in isolation is unlikely to be the reason for your rejection. The lender would score your application using data from credit report (such as total credit available, total credit used and percentage of credit used) along with data on your application form - how much you earn, time with employer, time with bank etc and then decide whether to lend to you.

Do you have any other credit cards/loans? If so, what are the balances and credit limits? What is your salary?

on any of my loans or credit cards.

The reason for the decline may well have something to do with your credit usage, balance owed, number of accounts etc.

If it's a first offence, write to RBS and explain it was a mistake and ask if they would be good enough to remove the late marker.

As others gave said, might not be the reason.
