Painting textured render

The outside of our house is partly covered in textured render & we did a test patch in matt emulsion we had to see what colour we would repaint it. We have a huge new tub of matt emulsion in white, so could we in theory use this or does it have to be a special exterior paint?

You cannot use Matt emulsion on exterior walls as it will crack in the sun and wash away in the rain. You must use an exterior paint.0

Yes you need to use a masonry paint

Try to wash off the test patch you've done before repainting, too.
You will find both smooth or textured paints availalbe, the smooth will cover better, the textured has a rougher finish.

I bought a gallon of bright orange emulsion paint off the cheap shelf at B&Q some year ago, didn't need it, but eventually used it on my waney lap (wooden) fence as a backdrop to black trellis. (looks cooler than it sounds). That was 6 years ago, and it has never run, never cracked and never faded. Most polyurathane paints are the same, just plastics suspended in water.
But would I use the same on render........... no.0
