What happens when claim goes over 8 weeks?

I recently had a claim upheld by the FOS from egg- barclaycard, which was in May. which is good. Only been waiting two years which seems very common.

Anyway, it has been about 12 weeks, and although i'm patient, i thought i would ring in case anything had got lost on the way.
Very nice lady spoke to me and my upheld claim hadn't come back from the Ombudsman to them until 20th May then she looked and i could sense a slight horror in her voice as it had gone over the 8 weeks threshold for redress.

What does 'going over the 8 weeks' mean? Does it mean they get fined for taking to long? Does it mean i'll get some kind of late payment? Seemed strange to keep going on about it.

I bet i get a letter within the next week!
I just wondered had anyone else had this situation?

There is no eight week "limit". The only time eight weeks applies is when the original complaint is presented to the Bank and they then have eight weeks to consider it.
FOS have ruled in your favour, the bank should now refund the original PPI you paid together with attendant interest and 8% simple interest. You won't be getting any "late" payment, but I agree they should have already paid up by now. I'd contact the Ombudsman to chase on your behalf.

The Ombudsman has no power to fine firms, only to award redress.

It just seemed strange for her to keep mentioning it, i thought then that perhaps they get fined from somewhere if they go over the 8 weeks. Not as if i was expecting anymore money.

I kinda wondered perhaps it was taking longer because it originally an egg card back from 2003.

What i thought was strange from the start when i started my complaint journey here is i had 2 egg cards. This claim here is the original one i had, the first card (visa) and the second card i had was a mastercard i got a couple years later. Barclaycard upheld the mastercard one but not the first one(visa card) i orginally had and they were applied for in exactly the same way.. then the FOS upheld my claim anyway, its as if i had go through this 'little dance' before they would hold there hands up and admit i WAS mis sold it.. weird.

I can't really complain. Through this whole process of reclaiming PPI from my credit cards, and i was quite stupid to have a lot, i have so far won every one.

Perhaps i need to read what i had previously written!! Lol

Contradicting myself a bit.. i suppose when i thought about it, the second post was after some more logical thought!!

I'm very happy with how far i have got.. Its like finding a saving account you forgot about.:D
