Tideswell and surrounding areas...

hi ,
we are off on holiday here in a few weeks time and would be grateful of ideas of things to do.

It will be oh, ds1 19, ds2 14 and myself.

Anything less than an hours drive away would be best and not too expensive.

So far we have on the list one of the caves, outdoor swimming pool, museum in bakewell and one of the days we will be dropping boys off for the day at Alton towers.

Could do with something just for oh and I to do when boys are there. We have ruled out.. Go ape, anything that's on/included in Buxton family festival and any other museums/houses ect... we always do these on hol and are a bit fed up of them now. Also nothing "kiddie" farms, parks ect... as boys too old.

All ideas welcome :) thanks :)

Speedwell Cavern at the lower end of the Winnats Pass near Castleton is well worth a visit. There are steep steps and an underground boat trip. Hard hats are supplied but you need to wear strong shoes or boots as conditions underfoot can be damp and slippery. It's also rather cold underground whatever the outside temperature.

Ladybower reservoir and the Derwent Dams are good if you like walking and scenery. Miles of low-level flat walks too if the steep paths and high ridges don't appeal. Toilets and refreshments available from Fairholmes Visitor Centre which charges for parking, but free parking is available at all other car parks along the access road off the A57.

There's also Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House nearby if they appeal to you. Also Crich Tramway Museum is open daily and a nearby heritage steam railway runs on certain days of the week.

Just a few ideas from the many attractions in the area.
