Returning faulty laptop

The laptop I bought was faulty from the start .. I contacted store on 5th day to say it was faulty and that I would be returning it when I am back home .. the laptop was used for maximum 2-3 hours.
Faults:
Headphone jack not working,
Touchpad not working
Battery temperamental and turns itself off once or twice in the 2-3 hours.
I am now on day 27 of owning laptop, the store told me i couldn't return it today or tomorrow because manager wouldn't be there .. so I would have to go on the 29th day which is out of the 28 day faulty goods refunds.
I am not interested in a repair like offered, I want a refund. Am I entitled to a full refund even if manager not there and return tomorrow (28th day)?
Thank you

What is this '28 days' you speak of?
Is it part of the shop's returns policy?
It only refers to 'change of mind' type of returns.
It really doesn't matter too much where the '28 days' comes from, as if the goods are faulty, then the seller must either prove that the fault was not present at the time of sale or provide a remedy.0 -
You are entitled to a repair, a replacement or refund. And the choice is up to the retailer, usually the most cost effective is the repair.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi thanks for prompt reply,

Returning faulty goods
If you buy a product that turns out to be faulty, you can choose to reject it which means you can give it back and get a refund.
But, the law only gives you a reasonable time to do this – what's reasonable depends on the product and how obvious the fault is.
However, even with major purchases or complex items, it’s safest to work on the basis you usually have no more than three to four weeks from when you receive it to reject it.
Am I entitled to a refund on this laptop?

That is which.co.uk's interpretation of the law.newuser101 wrote: »Hi thanks for prompt reply,

You are allowed a short time to ensure the goods conform to contract, but the law does not state exactly how long that is.
So whether it is seven days, twenty eight days or thirty days, is a discussion you may well find yourself having with the store manager.
As you raised the issue in the first week after purchase, you may have a good case. But this all boils down to opinions, and the store manager will have an opinion too.0 -

This Which article may help you.
Note that it says:
Read the whole of that document and some of the links from it.Contact the retailer you bought it from and tell it about the problem. Tell them that you want to 'reject' the item and get your money back.
Legally, you have only a 'reasonable' time (normally just a few weeks after you bought it) to reject something. But a reputable retailer may give you a refund as a goodwill gesture.0 -
Thanks for the link,
I paid in cash and when I found the faults I stopped using it and contacted them on day 6 . There was no garuntee but a 3 month warranty
.. When I said about the battery they said this was not covered under warranty so could not fix this intermittent fault . I don't really want to deal with them again . Would rather refund and purchase from a company I trust . The battery exclusion on warranty was never mentioned to me or warranty shown to me until after I paid0 -
I would like to add, the company never gave a receipt just the warranty .. what does this mean?
Thanks0
