Santander 123 accounts question

Does any one know if it is possible to get both a student 123 account and an ordinary 123 account? Son is off to uni in September and was going to apply for a student 123 account when he gets his A level results and firm offer (mainly for the railcard). However, he has a bond which is due to mature and the ordinary 123 account looked a good vehicle to use for his savings (He has an account at the minute with another bank and could recycle money through that to meet the funding criteria).

Many thanks.

  • As a mature student, can I apply for a Santander 123 account? If not, what are the best accounts for mature students? I know I wouldn't qualify for a student railcard but have been told that there is another one that I do qualify for?? Any help is much appreciated.
  • dizzie, if you have a 123 and want a student account they have to convert the 123 into the student account. BOOOO. I guess it depends on how much of a balance he'd need- the 123 Student gives 3% up to £2k. the normal 123 gives 3% on balances over £3k up to £20... (I took the £1400 overdraft from co-op and put it into my normal 123 account :D)

Solouyoga, I think you would qualify for the railcard even as a mature student; I'm postgrad and am eligible as I'm a full-time student even though I'm over 25. It looks as though you can get a student account if you're undergrad and the postgrad if you're not.

I've got a student 123, just coming to the end of my final year. Originally I had the gadget insurance but managed to get a 4 year rail card earlier this year :). The railcard is a 16-35 and I am well, well over 25!!

So, can you get a 16-25 railcard if you are not in that age bracket then? I am 42 and doing an MA. Thanks.

How would it benefit you even if you could get one? Seems like a pointless question really.
