I think people here need more inormation because at this stage it is hard to tell whether you or the stepdad are in the right.

For those of you who are assuming the opposite, I am in no way shape or form interested in getting ANY money out of this; I have a pretty good job and enough of my own money to cover our overheads and that's more than enough for me.
The car in question is still in my mother in law's name, but my OH's stepdad has somehow scrapped it with my MIL's name still on the V5C as the registered keeper.
Also my MIL died without a will, so there is no executor, only administrator.
This man is actually being investigated by the police for theft not only from the state (he was taking MIL's widow benefit which was still going into a bank account which should have been closed, and he had access to). but also from my MIL's estate and from my OH's own pocket, so if he's going to attempt to take everything from her, then we'll take everything from him by making him Bankrupt if possible.
In my mind there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this man is at fault, my OH has lost money and suffered a lot of distress because of him and so we're going to do something about it.0 -
