Quote for Carpeting

Hey

I've just been quoted for re-carpeting my house (2 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom, living room/dining room, 2 hallways and stairs). I'm only doing it to help get a quick sale on my house so the carpet doesn't need to be expensive.

I've just been quoted by CarpetRight £824.12 including a 10% discount on top of that is £242 to fit, £80 to move furniture and £96.80 to uplift the carpets.

Is there anywhere else I should try? Oh I'm in Edinburgh by the way.

My advice would be to get a couple of quotes from a local company. We had a quote from Carpet Right last year for our hall, stairs, landing and loft room and they quoted us £1200, we also got a quote from a local company and they quoted £675.

I don't live near Edinburgh but just get a couple of local quotes as Carpet Right are rip off merchants!! (my opinion)
Our dream has come true... :D

Hi well we are waiting to get our new house done soon and we have had a quote for the following:

first set of stairs and hall: carpet
    lounge: Laminate
    2 double bedrooms: laminate
another set of stairs and hall: carpet

Now the laminate is nicer than standard stuff and has a nice grainy type effect, this was priceyish but he did it for the same price as other cheaper stuff..
Carpet again not cheap but not pricey, done for the same price as a cheaper one we liked but he knew i prefered this one!

They will do the whole house in 2 days max (not sure if that's the average!) and also as we can't give him exact dates and need to call him at the drop of a hat he has agreed to be up whenever we want..even weekends and they don't do weekends!!
It is a local firm and tbh getting it all from the same shop etc has made life easier, just hope it's as good when done as their customer service has been!

Aaanyway after all my rambling!! the quote is £1600 all in..good? i don't know but were having it!

    Part of the Furniture
Carpetright sub-contract the fitting anyway so get a recommendation from friends and family for the fitting, it will be cheaper and probably the same bloke!

Carpetright make all their profit from fitting, underlay etc..etc..

As for a quote to "supply the carpet only" and phone round the local carpet fitters to see how much they'd charge for fitting+underlay+grippers.
  • I had a carpet laid in my dining room from carpetright last week and the fitter gave me his card and said he would sort me the carpet/fitting/underlay etc tons cheaper if I call him direct when I want my next carpet doing. He admitted carpetright rip people off with the underlay etc

Split the fitting over 2 or 3 visits, then you can move the furniture yourself and uplift and take the old carpets to the dump as well. To make uplifting the carpets easier, cut them into 3' strips and roll up. That would save you £176.80.
