Hotwire ripoff

  • The whole point of the secret deals is that it is a bit of a gamble. If you knew you would be getting the Ritz or the Dorchester everytime then firstly everyone would book them and secondly the price would be much closer to the normal rate for these hotels.

When you gamble sometimes itll pay off and sometimes it wont. As long as the room meets the criteria it was sold under then it isnt a rip off, it just isnt a bargain

thanks. you are right. this is the logical response i need

You're going for a beer festival - when you get back from a night out it'll look like the Ritz through the haze ;)

Seriously - it's well situated and clean-You are complaining it wasn't "cheap" but all rooms in Munich are a "rip off" and overpriced during the beer festival -Supply and demand. Price must have been OK or you'd have booked a named hotel for the same money surely ?

If however it is graded as a 2 star hostal and not a 3 star hotel that's a different matter and you need to go back to hotwire and tell them it's a miss-sell.

I've actually stayed there. Pretty good, modern, clean, has it's own bar etc, well located. The beer hall opposite is great.

The thing with secret hotels is they never guarantee the bedding arrangements, only that the room will sleep the amount of people required. Which obviously this will.

If you can prove that they sold it as a 3.5 star the maybe you have a case. As it's a 2 star hostel.

Perhaps make a nuisances of yourself via social media, do hotwire have facebook/twitter?

thanks. its good to know you liked it. what about the price though? do you think £80 per night for two ppl is overpriced or about right? am i paying for the location? im more inclined to put it down to experience than to start makin a fuss on facebook etc

I can't remember what I payed as we were part of a big group that had 3 rooms. As for £80 per night.... It's hard to say. The place is basic, but modern and clean. Ours was a big room with 3 bunk beds (so 6 beds). Location is good, but it's not bang in the centre. About a 20min walk, although trams run right outside and would be a few minutes max.

Not sure how useful my social media suggestion might be. Their facebook page doesn't seem to accept comments and on twitter they seem to post a generic "contact customer care" reply to anyone moaning. You could try their customer service again and try being more pressing. It's up to you how much you want it changed. If you've not found it already the official site is here so you can have a look what to expect http://www.meininger-hotels.com/en/hotels/munich/

I have used Hotwire for years but never will again. We booked and paid for a hotel which on my reservation says the rooms have safes. The hotel rooms didn't have safes so we didn't even stay one night as we were told ( by staff ) that there had been breakins. They were putting metal strips on the doors to try and prevent some more breakins. Hotwire refuse to do anything. We had paid 4 nights so lost the lot, but the supposed "Crowne Plaza" was like a cheap motel.
I also find nowadays if you book through Hotwire the hotels give you the worst rooms in the hotel. I'm going to stick to what I know in future, not worth the small savings.
