Advice on garage issues?
Our car began having issues about a month ago. We took it to a local garage who said that the clutch needed replacing and that the tensioner needed replacing. I noticed a couple of days later that there were spots of oil on our drive but put it down to the clutch repair.
Six days later my husband was driving the car on the motorway when the battery light came on and then every light came on and the car began to lose power. He had to call RAC as he was stranded 150 miles from home. The RAC man said that the fan belt had come off and he towed my husband to a service station. This did not fix the problem as there was an issue with a bracket and he glued it together so my husband could get home.
We took the car back to the original garage. They said that they would look at it and then said that we could not prove that they were responsible for the fan belt but as a gesture of good will they would replace the bracket.
But we were still experiencing issues with oil leaking from the car. So we took it to back to the garage. They said that the oil leak was caused by a failed seal that was not connected to the work they had done previously. My husband asked for the car to be repaired. It was meant to be done today as the part needed ordering but when my husband went to pick up the car, he was told they were awaiting the part and would drop the car off at our house later on. At 7 we realised that they were not coming and my husband walked to the garage to find it locked up with our car inside.
So it's a bit of a sorry state of affairs. As you can gather, I'm quite clueless about car stuff but even I'm not so naïve that I believe that our up-until-now perfectly serviceable car suddenly developed two faults after the garage 'fixed' our car. So I suppose I'm hoping someone with more experience has some advice?

The crank seal behind the clutch is sometimes best replaced when doing the clutch. But usually its left unchanged.
If its leaking from there then its just bad timing.
But they may have damaged the gearbox driveshaft seals. Where is teh oil leaking from?
Some car have what appears to be a simple adjuster in the alternator bracket. But there is a locking nut. Failing to undo that 1st car snap the threaded bolt off or worse. Citroen engines are popular with that setup.
But they are fixing that. So just comes down to where the oil is leaking from.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What car is it? As typically the auxiliary belt is on the o/s, not n/s (clutch side).0
