Confused re moving from BT to Virgin Media

Hi,
Have looked at previous posts but still can't find definitive answer. Currently have BT broadband (not Infinity) and BT line rental. Looking to switch to Virgin Media.
Obviously I'll cancel BT broadband, if I were to order Virgin that same day presumably i'd in effect have 2 broadband connections, up until BT notice period ends, given Virgin use their own fibe optic network.
Main confusion is line rental, it says should be able to keep BT number - how does this work as again I thought Virgin used their own network? Just wondered what cancellation process was with BT and process is for new line setup with Virgin.
Apooogies if obvious answer. Thanks in advance.

If you are porting your BT number to Virgin then all you have to do is place the order with Virgin and this will cancel the BT line and BT broadband when the number is transferred to Virgin.
The notice period is done through Virgin requesting the number port so you do not need to cancel BT yourself.
You will however get a £30 charge for ceasing the BT Broadband and not using a MAC.0 -
Once you know your VM start date, call BT and reconfirm the cancellation and date. This board is full of woeful stories from those who naively believed a sales agent who told them 'don't worry, we will do it all for you'...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
