Majorca or Greece?

Can anyone recommend a location in either of the above for a single mum, her two children (3yrs and 1 yr) and their grandparents - self-catering?
I have been to Cala D'or before and found it too quiet and have been to Crete although Crete was well before I had children and I was still at school so may well have changed!
Any advice would be much appreciated?

I have not been to Greece so I can't comment, but I have been to Mallorca loads of times (added advantage that my sister lives there).
Allcudia is a great resort, caters well for all the familiy, great beaches that are shallow and lots do do including some night life should you want it, it's very much a family resort and is nothing like Magaluf etc0 -
I would suggest trying Sidari on Corfu. I have been there twice with a 6 year seperation tween visits. Last year myself, wife and kids stayed at the cheesily named but excellent spiros apartments. Nice pool, nice food, nice people and a 10 minute walk into town. Loads of nice joints good beach, i could go on but i am currently looking for a holiday on Zante at the moment, good luck.0

I would second that. Port d'Alcudia has a fantastic beach, loads of restaurants and some nightlife if you want it. Alcudia (the old walled town) is a short distance away and is lovely to have a wander around, interesting shops and good restaurants. You will be able to find loads of self catering apartments in Port d'Alcudia. Puerto Pollensa, just up the coast from Port d'Alcudia is lovely too but perhaps a bit too quiet if you thought Cala D'or was too quiet.
I'd recommend you hire a car during a stay in Majorca as there is so much to see. Marineland near Magaluf is a good day our for the kids. Dolphin and Sea Lion shows etc. It's nice also to have a wander around some of the beautiful Mallorcan villages such as Valdemossa and Deia, they are just gorgeous. You can take boat trips from most of the major resorts to other beaches, or a train ride from Palma to Soller (great day out for the kids too) and then a tram down to the beach at Port de Soller. Sa Calobra is a nice place to visit if you can stomach the 14 km journey of hair-pin bends! A beautiful cove and you can walk around the headland to a small beach (busy in high season). Sa Calobra can be reached by boat from Port de Soller if you don't fancy the drive. I just love Majorca (can you tell)!0 -
With kids i would say Majorca is better. Greece is a bit basic and lacking in entertainment for kids.
If you found Cala D'Or quiet then try Palma Nova. I had a great time there when my daughter was about 4. Its much better than Alcudia ( which is not great for families as its all busy roads and poorly laid out).
In Palma Nova ( towards Magalluf on the Torrenova headland) there is a square with about 5 family pubs around it with bouncy castles etc for the kids. There are lots of livelier bars in this area too.0 -

If you've done one Mediterranean beach holiday you've done them all. Pick aywhere popular with Brits, they're all the same. Bland bland bland.Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money0 -
flight times and transfers to the balearics ould be better- but i prefer ibiza and menorca to majorca. try cala llonga on www.tripadvisor.com for starters.
www.mytravel.com are generally competitive and still have some free child places available0 -
