Car insurance - two main drivers, one vehicle? retaining no claims ?

Hi all - myself and my partner are reducing to a one car family. My partner is buying the car so will be the registered owner. We both want to retain the no claims we have built up. Are there any insurers out there who would allow us both to retain our no claims? We have only enquired with one insurer and have been advised that the additional driver would lose their NCB after 2 years.

Thanks in advance :)

Losing your NCB after 2 years of not holding a policy is fairly standard. The usual way to avoid it is to alternate so that you take out the policy one year, your partner takes it out the next year (NCB follows the policyholder, not necessarily the main driver). That way neither of you ends up with a gap of more than 2 years between policies, so both of you keep your NCB.

Read the questions and assumptions about who is the owner/registered keeper and who is the main driver carefully and make sure you answer them correctly, but the majority of insurers will let you insure a partner's car.
