  • Ah well. You could try a mobile phone contract, manage your bank account well.

Have you just tried aqua so far?
You could possibly try one of the other subprime cards. You may want to try the MSE eligibility checker to see if it shows any as likely to accept you. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards#how

Other options you could consider could be a sim only mobile contract, or a catalogue both of which are relatively easy to get.

Are you on the electoral roll? have you checked your credit reports with all 3 agencies?

If you've been rejected by Aqua it's very unlikely someone will give you a mobile phone contract to be honest as Aqua normally give cards to anyone. Have you applied for anything else and been rejected recently that might be why you have been rejected now? If so, try again in three months.

The other 'bad credit' lenders you could try are Capital One, Vanquis and Barclaycard Intitial but don't apply for them all too quickly as multiple rejections just make you more likely to be rejected.

If those fail, you could try in a few months to open a catalogue account - JD Williams and Jacamo seem fairly easy to get 'credit' with, and report monthly to the credit agencies, but don't keep a balance with them as the interest rates are extortionate.

If all else fails, try one of the prepaid credit cards advised by Martin in the cards for bad credit pages. There are monthly fees involved, so not worth doing except as a last resort and you must be sure to use them properly and never miss a payment to avoid doing any further damage.

    You could try Vanquis.

I think you need to be dead for them to refuse you, and even then you stand a chance.

If you have defaults from 2009 and have been refused an Aqua card you've not got a snowball's chance in hell of remortgaging.

Which Aqua card did you apply for? They have the Aqua Advance which charges no foreign transaction fees, plus the APR reduces over time. That may need a higher credit score than their Classic card.

I have prime cards and applied for the advance but never feel sure of it being a successful application... It went through fine.
My cousin applied for the Aqua Reward and was shocked to be declined, so not sure how easy they are.

I think Vanquis may be easier as they can charge APR up to 69%

Want to try another bad credit card but scared of too many searches.
I know Getting a mortgage impossible, it just anoying I realise it my fault but not been over drawn five years and have paid off all my debts. I passed all the affordability checks and would have a loan to value of about 60%,so where's the risk to the bank?I understand they had to tighten lending after all the sub prime fiddle but think it's gone too far the other way.
