Income based ESA & partner not working?

I am in receipt of Income based ESA in the Support group & was awarded the enhanced care rate of PIP.
My husband cares for me so he claimed Carer's Allowance.
His last job was contracted & he has been looking for work since it ended.
He doesn't claim JSA, he is on my claim for ESA.
We live in an area of high un-employment & my husband is finding it difficult to find a job plus due to caring for me.

Does anyone know if the Job Centre will still expect my husband to find work?

No the job centre wont expect him to look for work. As he is your carer and has to care for you upto 35 hours a week i believe, And any work he does do he can only earn a total of £100.

I assume he claims Carers allowance and income support.

No they don't, but he may have to go to a WFI after 26 weeks. where he can explain to them his caring responsibilites for you.

He's on the joint ESA claim so he wouldn't be eligible for income support as well. Either the OP can claim ESA or he can claim IS . Either way it would be a joint claim.

When i was a carer i was on income support and carers allowance. why would a carer be on a ESA as this isn't the appropriate benefit for someone caring.

As already said you can do one or the other.

It is worth the OP doing a benefits check on https://www.turn2us.org.uk to see if there is any difference in what you would get, as in some circumstances one pays more than the other.

It is similar to someone claiming JSA and adding their partner to their claim even thought the other person may not be job seeking (e.g. as they are caring for a young child)

You could turn it around and say that if the OP's partner did claim Income Support then it would not be the appropriate benefit for the OP.

Because 2 members of a couple can't claim 2 different income based benefits.

You will get more money if he claims CA & IS rather than what you are currently doing CA & ESA(IR)

Because DP on IS is about £45 for a couple
He will get (approximate figures used):
    113.70 PA
    32.40 CP
    45.00 DP
    22 EDP (? Approx value)
    Total IS = £213
    minus CA (61) = £152
minus your ESA SG (assuming you have got ESA C) (£108) = £44

As a unit you would get
    IS £44
    CA £61
    ESA £108
    Total = £213

which I will bet is more than you currently get.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.
The news will put my husbands mind at peace as he was worried that the job centre would think he was not trying hard enough to find work.

He's not expected to look for work whilst on carers allowance.
