Problems with a company called "Select Calls"

I received a request from a friend who runs his own business from home.
To cut a long story short, he is with BT for line and broadband and Select Calls for his phone calls.
Select Calls have cancelled his broadband and now BT say it will be a week or more before his broadband will be reconnected. He has gathered that a lot of "Select Calls" customers have been affected in a similar way.
Can he cancel his contract with them and claim damages from them?
