Credit card fee by merchant

When I bought a brand new car for cash last year from a main dealer they would only accept a credit card for up to £500 for the deposit, the balance had to be either by debit card or cheque and if the latter it had to clear before they would release the car.0

That is their choice if they want to take the hit, they are not making any customer subsidies others.reclusive46 wrote: »You could say the same about every single card accepting merchant that doesn't charge extra to pay by cc though.0 -
Hardly fair on people that want to pay cash, why should they pay extra to subsidies people that want to pay by card.
But with cash it generally takes longer for the cashier to deal with handed over monies and change. You then have cashing up at the end of the shift. Plus of cause fidelity issues of staff theft etc. You also have higher insurance due to the cash kept on site. Problems with fake notes/ coins. Plus you cannot forget the security guys that have to transport the money to the bank. Plus of cause the banks charge up to 1% for cash deposits (though obv this is as negotiable as the 2.5% for credit cards).
Why should a debit card user have to pay extra just because you want to use the antiquated cash method? Why not start bartering on how many sheep you'll trade for your weekly shopping.
There is much more of an argument over card fees in businesses where cash is not a viable option.0
