What is the life-cycle of an eBay shop?

Another victim of eBay perhaps?
I phoned them this afternoon to talk about the defects on my private account, the chap was pleasant as usual but not overly helpful. He was slightly surprised I knew who had left my poor stars and I had to explain that if you click to download a report you see the item number- and since my personal items are one off items it was easy to see which buyer was messing around. He did confirm that I shouldn't contact the buyer though as that would breach rules.

Hello Soolin (long time no talk...LOL)
I am surprised at what you posted as I had cause to contact ebay about defects last week and I go through to Top Customer Care in Dublin (not sure if that is the same for everyone??) and the chap I spoke to was fully clued up about defects and the report that you can download etc...and he actually said the complete opposite to what you were told.
He said that the reason it had become more transparent was because that was what sellers were asking for and that sellers were wanting more control of their business and service standards. Therefore sellers could now see who had left them low stars so they were able to contact the buyers to find the reasons behind it and amend their service/ descriptions accordingly.
In my case I had been left a 3 star for item as described on a product that I have sold 2000+ of and have never had a low star... (in the days that low stars were 1&2s). He advised me to contact the buyer and find her reasons and if they were non-sensical to get back to him so he could review the defect...he stated if necessary they could remove the positive feedback as that was the only way of removing the low 3 star rating.
Cut what is becoming a long story short...I contacted the buyer and she admitted that she was very happy and the description was fine and she didn't realise that leaving the 3 star would penalise me and ebay then removed it for me :-)0 -
Mrs_justjohn this is what I find so frustrating now with eBay, I too spoke to Dublin. The chances are though if I had persevered and phoned back and got another guy he would have said something entirely different.
If you can't trust the advice given by CS what hope is there? My 1* with positive feedback is still there
