Barclaycard PPI

Hi all,

Last evening I arrived home to a letter from Barclaycard confirming my entitlement to a PPI refund of £1,717 (it's direct from them and definitely legit). This was a complete surprise to me as I had not fully lodged the complaint.

Basically I had phoned up to complain when their pre-eligibility checker said 9/10 and I was refused a new account with on the basis of my past conduct with them. I had defaulted in 2008 and waited for this to expire before I applied. They explained the rejection was based on previous mis-management of an account, which I fully understand however I thought the checker would be sophisticated enough to rule our previous customers with whom they didn't wish to deal in future.

I had intended to lodge a formal PPI complaint so whilst I had them on the phone, I asked if they could see if PPI was on the account. I was fairly sure it was but thought it would be easier to query this over the phone rather than fill the forms out. The lady I spoke to (not a PPI specialist as I recall) said no and so I pretty much left it and indeed felt slightly embarrassed for asking. This is approximately 6-8 weeks ago.

I was obviously elated when I received the letter yesterday. It indicated I had already confirmned my preferred payment method so called earlier today to query this. They me through security they asked me if I had another middle name. I said no and she then said it would have to be passed to another team to confirm as it didn't match the details on the complaint.

I asked her to confirm that the account details at my address were correct and that the sums involved were correct. She confirmed that this is the case and that the payment wouldn't be affected. Althought it's currently at home, I seem to recall the letter being properly addressed to me also with no additional names. I did confirm to her that I hadn't formally lodged a complaint and this seemed to trigger her wanting to query this with her manager. She did 100% confirm that the sums paid for PPI were right and the compensation calculations were correct. The date on the letter in terms of PPI (2003) matches the time I opened the account.

Am I unduly worrying myself and does anyone have any experience of circumstances such as this? Surely they couldn't have mixed me up with someone else and it's more likely that my details were incorrectly logged when (presumably) the lady I had spoken to on the phone previously passed my details to the PPI team?

Kind regards,

Dan

Clearly the bank have treated what you said in the conversation as a PPI complaint.
    Enjoy your redress.:D

Hopefully so - do you agree that the issue with the name is more likely to be a logging issue in terms of the complaint and not actual confusion in terms of someone of a similar name. The chances of the latter are surely nigh on impossible?

Check with the Bank to be sure.

I effectively have but they've had to refer it to another team. I'm currently saving for a house deposit so that money came out of the blue and would be brilliant (and entirely mine I might add). To think there's only the slimmest chance of a problem is worrying!
