I did wonder about this as we have these elsewhere but these are 18" plus but the one I'm looking at is less than 6" which confused me. Would the relatively poor soil restrict growth that much? Also the leaves are smooth and the ovary is much smaller, but thanks for the suggestion.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I've seen very big variation in the size of the more common orchids around my area.
It does appear too that hybrid are common, so maybe that's what this is, which is why you've had trouble identifying it?
Perhaps you should try a specialist forum for wild flowers, or even the Natural History Museum? You've provided some lovely clear pictures so I am sure there's an expert who will be able to name it easily!

I checked Kew Garden's website, but they don't do identifications0 -
Thanks, I'll give it a try later when home. I did try a wild plant forums but they did not upload my pics at all, even with firewall off.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Signed up, found forums but you need a special card number to sign up for the forum. I assume you get it from the museum cos they don't say where to get it (not that I could find)
Will have to try elsewhere.

How about this group?

"We share an interest in the wild, native orchids of Britain and the rest of Europe, as well as those from similar temperate climates throughout the world"
Their conservation officer might help -
