Jet2 flight change of name

Options
Don't know what I'm expecting from posting this, because I probably know what the answer is...
I have flights booked with Jet2 to travel in September, for my boyfriend and I....said boyfriend is now my ex. I could not predict this would happen, it was not expected. I want to change the name for the flight for one of my friends, but Jet2 want a £70 admin fee and then to pay the 'uplift', the difference between the price I paid and the current price of the flight, which, today is £110! So £180 for a name change....surely this isn't fair?! I can't cancel because they don't refund, but just by changing a name, they're not losing out on anything! I was expecting to pay about £35 or something!
Is there anything I will be able to? Or am I just gonna have to get on with it?!
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately it is fair and many airlines operate this policy.

The reason behind it is to stop people or travel agents buying up all the cheap seats when they go on sale using dummy names and then selling the seats on at a profit and just doing a name change. Therefore nearly all name changes will include the fare difference. Some airlines don't allow name changes at all.

You might be able to try your travel insurance although doubtful they'll help. Otherwise if your friend wants to go it may be cheaper to book a new ticket for them. What arrangement you and your ex come to over the lost money is between you and him I'm afraid.

Hope you manage to still get away and have a good time!

No money lost for him! I paid! Thank you, I'll still definitely be going as I'm meeting family there too, might just turn out a little more expensive that expected!
