Good luck with the re-wire. We had it done about 4 years ago and it took 2 weeks, so at least the council are doing it fairly quickly. Due to your husband's health problems would the council not move you out for the 2 nights? I know that he works during the day, but I wouldn't have thought that the mess, dust etc would be healthful for him?

I think they might if we kicked up a fuss, but it'd be a pain in the butt either way and if people see we're having work done the chances of getting burgled if we leave are pretty high. They're pretty quick like you say so hopefully it'll be over before it gets too bad :j0

Managed to get everything done and squeeze in a bit of cleaning too  but the supermarkets near me don't do boxes any more! good job I spoke to a neighbour about it, the council have promised to drop off boxes tomorrow.
Ordered ink using the Amazon vouchers as well.
The only problem was the vet don't do immunisation records so the cattery will have to ring them to confirm he's up to date with everything. Hope that doesn't cause any problems. I did mention it on the phone but I think it was the owners teenager and they didn't sound entirely with it, probably too early in the morning :rotfl:
That's it, no other news. Can't wait to see if this cheque clears and I can stick it straight into the credit union. No letter from L!nk yet.0 -
Got a rent statement today and we were ahead, so phoned them because as far as I was aware we were just up to date - turns out I forgot about the way they leave four weeks because they split it into 48 instead of 52. I did the same thing last year, you'd think it would teach me a lesson :rotfl:
Just going to leave it in case we any problems in the future. Good to be a bit ahead.
DLA wrote to OH to apologise for not dealing with his claim, they did say it would be eleven weeks so they aren't even behind until Decemberish.
The vet mentioned a pet club scheme yesterday and when I worked it out it would have saved me £67 last year. £10 a month covers nail clipping, vaccination boosters, a six month check and flea treatments, plus 10% off additional consults.
The idea that one pet will cost us £22 a month just for health care and insurance is a bit eye watering, although the insurance has paid for itself many times over already with this cat. You have to set up the direct debit at the vets in person so I have some time to think about it.
That's it! no letter from L!nk still. When they get their act together I can set up a payment. At least the ink arrived so son & heir can print out his college stuff.0 -
Two letters today, one from the energy company saying £12 will be credited to the account due to some government rebate scheme. That's happy news at least
The other was an absolutely vile letter from L!nk saying OH is trying to evade payment and they know where he lives, threatening to increase the amount owed. He's lived here on the electoral roll for 14 years! I've been speaking to them for the last few months while they've tried to find the genuine amount he owes. This letter was still after the first ridiculously incorrect amount.
They are a really nasty company to deal with, the attitude of the staff and the letters they send are foul and out of proportion to the amount owed, they tried to claim at least £250 more than they should and still can't organise a pee up in a brewery even after they've agreed to a settlement figure.
Really annoyed and really glad OH didn't have to read this latest !!!! up. Tempted to refer them to Arkell v. Pressdram but honestly, who wants to deal with incompetent fools with scummy attitude problems forever.
All this just because OH got ill and overwhelmed and didn't defer properly one year. You'd think he'd done a bunk with the crown jewels :rotfl:
Well I'm not phoning them, they can send a proper settlement letter first, 0844 numbers are killing the virgin bill. At least I feel morally okay about doing them out of that other £350 in charges
Time to mow the grass and do some energetic weeding, have to put all this annoyance somewhere!0 -
L!nk sent the right offer letter, dated the same day as the one that said they were unable to contact OH  I have safely filed that one away where OH will never see it.
Still not ringing them, I'll wait for the date the team leader said she'd phone - don't see why I should be in a hurry to help them out at the moment.
Anyway my BIL is coming round today to help take apart the big furniture and shift it, it's a bit previous but I can't do it on my own and today is the only day he's got free. There's a big mid century danish type wall unit, solid teak and heavy as anything with steel ladderax style struts. Barely got it up to begin with! Had no plans whatsoever to move it unless the house fell down around it :rotfl:
I'll have to put spare quilts on that and the sideboard because I've got no chance of replacing or repairing them, they were free and nobody makes proper furniture that I can afford.
Considering how much money I haven't got to replace anything, it will all have to be done super carefully. OH can't help at all, he drops things he isn't even holding at the time.0 -
All the big furniture got shifted and he even put up all the curtain poles for me on the hall stairs and landing! woohoo  I was wondering how I'd get up there on the stair turn to be honest.
The heating can go on any time now and I've done what can be done to keep the costs down. The door curtain is making a difference already with the draughts, just need to keep an eye on the condensation situation.
Between now and Tuesday I'll pack up and shift all the smaller items and cover them in dropcloths, Tuesday night pack up the computers and Wed morning tip my bed on end and pile up the bedroom stuff, nowhere to move it to until the bed moves.
Wednesday will be a pain and I'll need to put the bedroom back and pack it again for Thursdaybut I did check the shed and should have enough in paint and paper to fix any damage they do fairly quickly.
Not too bad considering the notice we were given :T0 -
All the work is done now and we're all rewired. There was a lot more damage than they said, I have nowhere near enough paint and paper to do it all and the furniture has to go back before I can get any, otherwise we'll be sat on two kitchen chairs and OH can't manage that.
It's probably best to do it properly anyway and not rushing about trying to patch places that need steaming off and redoing. Bit of a palaver but what can you do.
Moneywise no news at all, OH got paid but I haven't been able to do anything, no post at all etc. That tax cheque cleared and I need to shuffle it off before it starts to look useful :rotfl:
That's it, I'm shattered and glad public libraries are still free entry :T
edit: cost a lot more than I'd been hoping but I haven't added it up yet.0 -

Fortunately I keep on top of the decorating so we'll probably get something, I'll have to complain for it though, they fight you like mad on it these days but I'm used to them :rotfl:0
