Economy 10
Hi all, I hope you can help.
I've just signed for a rented flat and I'm sorting out all the bills. I've rang npower who currently supply the property (only took 26 minutes to answer) to be told they'll set up an account but can't give me an estimation or any rates as apparently I have an economy 10 meter. Their economy 10 rates also don't seem to be listed online (anywhere obvious anyway). Someone is apparently going to ring me to discuss tariffs and direct debit etc. That said, she also mentioned economy 7 a couple of times during the call (a slip of the tongue, or were they unsure of what was going on?)
I have to admit I thought it was just on economy 7. As the flat has night storage heaters I do need a tariff on economy 7 or economy 10. The mpan number starts "08" although the northern powergrid website only gives me one mpan number, whereas I understand economy 10 meters should have two? I'll ring them when their office is open. The meter gives 4 readings (although reading 3 is just 00000).
So, all that said
1) Which providers do economy 10? I'd rather not stick with nPower if I could help it.
2) am I right in thinking on economy 10 you have three periods of "cheap" electric for the hot water heater and storage heaters, but only the nighttime period gives cheaper power to the outlets, to save money using the washing machine etc. There are two circuits in the flat, with two trip boxes so this does seem possible. Again this doesn't seem to be on northern powergrids website.
Sorry to have to ask, but after hours of googling and searching on here I can only find threads from a few years back and limited info. I'm so confused!

E10 additionally gives you 3 hours of cheap daytime power (as opposed to E7, which gives you 7 hours of cheap night-time power). Handy for those who need that extra boost of heat in the winter daytime
But generally considered to be the spawn of the devil, as very few suppliers support E10 metering. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Best thing you could do is ask your supplier if they will be able to change the meter to a normal e7 meter, as you will be stuck on o sky high tariff unable to change to any others on the market. I had the same in my flat i moved into, i saved £100 getting the meter out.
They removed mine for free its worth a try, unless you really need the 3 times for heating0
