Barts Health Hospital Prescription Charge

You only get free drugs in a hospital when you are physically staying in the hospital. If you are prescribed drugs to take after discharge, then they are to be paid for, unless you have a PPC, or exemption, Benefits/medical condition etc
Was in hospital for 4 days last year. I am on unusual medication for a neurological complaint and most of the drugs I am on, where not available via the hospital pharmacy over the weekend, so they had to use mine. I was discharged on the Tuesday and they had just received my medication that day from the wholesaler, to reimburse me for using my drugs. These were given FOC, as they just refilled the amount used whilst in there.
I was sent home with a course of antibiotics and steroids and was asked if I paid for my drugs, which I stated to them I had a PPC. Heard nothing afterwards.
The doctor may state that they supply a 7 day course to you, however with cost cutting, they have most likely had orders to only supply enough, until the patient can see their GP, so the cost of the drugs, does not come out of hospital budgets.

The treatment length was 7 days, but how many tablets did the doctor prescribe. If the prescription reads
Steroid 2.5mg tabs
Take six daily for seven days
12 tablets
The pharmacy has given you what the doctor ordered. The other five days treatment needs to be obtained from your gp. If it reads
Steroid 2.5mg tabs
Take six daily for seven days
36 tablets
Then the pharmacy gave you the wrong amount and you have a valid complaint.0
