OK, Freespire also had issues that I couldn't solve - so I tried PCLinuxOS. Had problems with this as well, but I managed to solve them - a little googling helped, but I didn't have to post on yet another forum ! I feel the OS is very good for a Linux beginner, which I am.
Loving the Beryl/Compiz effects in PCLinuxOS! Eat your heart out Vista
! A video demonstrating what it can do for those who don't know what I'm talking about. Btw, Beryl, can be added to other Linux distros that don't have them natively.
Thanks for all your help & replies - sorry, I didn't listen to most of them, G

Hi
I have used PCLinuxOS.
I was impressed with it.
You can run the LiveCD from RAM if you wish.
It's number 2 in the charts at distrowatch.com (after Ubuntu).
I'm staying with Ubuntu for now, but there's no harm in trying other distros too (imho).

I'm the same. It worked straight off for me. Got round an issue I have with Ubuntu when installing.
I'm no fan of KDE though (I know you can add Gnome). But I've got scripts etc... set up for Ubuntu. It'd be a pain to switch. Plus once Ubuntu is up and running I'm very happy with it."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
