Does the authorised treatment plant notify DVLA?

If you send the log book to the insurer you are no longer the owner of said vehicle as they've effectively bought the salvage vehicle off you unless you choose to buy it back.

They may do, but the DVLA claim will be that OP was still the registered keeper and didn't notify them that they had disposed of the vehicle to the insurance company and so would still be liable for not insuring the vehicle - s.144A Road Traffic Act 1998.
