You are rather defensive but the facts do matter. Every one is free to move back and forth in the EU but claiming benefits depends on how long you have been out of the country, it also depends on what employment you have had elsewhere in the EU as you can claim benefits from some EU countries. The new EEA rules for benefits include British Citizens.

There are ways and means but like I say the right advice depends on your situation.

Of course I'm defensive, I came for advice and basically got told to question my partner as he may only be in it for the money (Not that you get very much on benefits lol) or that I'm doing something dodgy!
I am not saying he's not going to work ever again, only that he was wanting to take a break from work for a while, and I would go out to work (I've been unemployed for the last 3 years (without claiming benefits) and he has been paying for me!)
I was not planning on living off benefits forever, only til I manage to get a job.
Thanks to the people who gave some constructive help, I'll just contact the jobcentre and ask them for advice!

You gave so little information that some people are bound to speculate about yours/his intentions.
I'm sure no one intended to insult you. :)

The trouble is on these forums (fora??) when seeking advice is that the OP in every situation I've come across drip feeds the info instead of giving all the circumstances, thus people with good intentions appear to be more critical as the story unfolds. I think, as I said, CAB or JC+ but they will no doubt ask the same questions that you took offence at. Please in future do not waste my time if you don't want the 'Proper' answers. But I hope you get your problem sorted, though I doubt it. Now can someone please pass the popcorn.

OP, if your partner doesn't want to work how will he survive? Does he have savings?
